The Character of Carter & Co.

Learning who we are is about so much more than learning what we do. When we say that we partner with our clients, we truly mean it. So, if you're considering partnering with us, we want to make sure it's a great fit. Take a moment to learn more about our history, our team, and how we all gel together.

Company President, Nick Carter

Prior to launching Carter & Co. in May, 2006, company president Nick Carter enjoyed a successful career in the Autodesk channel. In this already mature market, Carter implemented marketing initiatives that led to 30% growth in customer base over three years and increased annual territory sales by over $1,000,000. During that time, Carter developed a keen understanding and expertise in product marketing.

Carter is distinguished not only by his experience, but also his character. As a true farm boy, Carter has a rich heritage in entrepreneurship and a firm understanding of hard work. He is dedicated to building a company on Christian principals for the Glory of God - understanding that even entrepreneurs are not without accountability (Colossians 3:23)

Meet the Team

About the Carter & Co.

In May, 2006, company president Nick Carter started a home-based business as a marketing consultant. By October, Carter & Co. was thriving and Nick was full-time. From a moonlight venture in Nick's home office to the 3000 ft2 studio in Indianapolis that we occupy today, we have met ever increasing demand for our marketing services. As clients asked for more and more of what we delivered, the answer became clear: let's put "us" onsite with "them."

The Marketing Talent division of Carter & Co. arose out of the obvious need companies have for diverse marketing skills with the lowest overhead cost. If you have experienced this need too, contact us for an appointment to discuss your personnel needs.

Outsourced Marketing

Are you looking for ways to obtain the most talented personnel yet still decrease your overall employee overhead? Or, maybe you have had difficulty retaining marketing talent and the turn-over costs are climbing. What if you outsourced all marketing tasks?

For many growing small and medium enterprises, an outsourced marketing department offers incredible flexibility without creating undue overhead burden. Let's sit down for a free consultation to analyze your current marketing overhead, your needs and plans for the future, and how an outsourced solution could make them possible. Contact us today.

Project Contractors

Where do you find freelancers you can trust? Let's face it, you can't visit a coffee shop without meeting a freelancer in a marketing-related field. Freelancers often deliver quality work at a lower cost than on-staff resources—which is exactly what you're looking for. What you are most decidedly not looking for, however, is a vendor that's hard to reach and has little understanding of standard business practice... or worse, a project left incomplete with no possible recovery of the fees you paid.

Over the years, we have connected many clients with freelancers that were just the right fit. So why pay us to pay them? How about reliability, oversight, and the protection that comes from a standard contract and terms.

We even offer a free tool for you to post your job or search for a contractor.

Direct Staffing

Need help filling positions in your Marketing Department? The marketing, branding, advertising, media, design, and web industry is huge, and talent levels run the gamut. Our expertise in marketing means we know exactly what skills meet specific needs and how to identify them in a candidate.

Whether you need a marketing admin, director-level talent, or a new CMO, our recruiters can find the person qualified for the job. We know your time is valuable, so we are sure to pre-qualify, screen, and interview candidates before we ever recommend them to you. We offer temp-to-hire, contingency fee, and retained search—whatever fits you best.

We even have a free tool for you to post your job or search for resumés.

Marketing Talent

Yeah, we know... Recruiters are a dime-a-dozen, right?

If you're used to "business as usual" with contingency-fee recruiters and temp-to-hire talent agencies, you're going to like the way we do business. For starters, we're not recruiters... well, at least not by trade. We're a marketing firm that saw an opportunity to add more value to our clients' business. After all, that is our goal: to add value!

For years, Carter & Co. has been a trusted marketing partner for many companies—from small businesses to global corporations. Today, our Marketing Talent division helps clients fill every marketing need by providing staffing services, onsite contractors, and entire outsourced marketing departments.

Website Development

With very few exceptions, every communication strategy that we devise will have some form of online component. We have designed and launched entirely new websites for companies, as well as created individual landing pages and website content to fill a specific purpose within our overall plan.

Through either in-house or out-sourced resources, we have the capability to execute any degree of web development that you may need. Click below to learn more.

Advertising Plans & Execution

Once we've created stunning designs and compelling content, then what? We have to figure out how to get your message in front of the RIGHT audience. This process takes a different shape with every new client depending on the industry, the target, the goals, and the client's budget.

Our end goal is to generate as much awareness and response as we can within the budget that you can afford. Often times, traditional advertising is not going to be the most effective, other times it is. What you need most is a marketing partner that thinks beyond the "way it has always been done" and really seeks to find creative and effective ways to reach your target audience. That's Carter & Co. Contact us today.

Copywriting & Content Development

If the communication strategy were the skeleton, our favorite part is putting meat on the bones. At Carter & Co., what sets us apart from traditional marketing firms is our ability (and strange desire) to dive deep into the technical minutia of your industry and your products. Where many marketing consultants can assist at a conceptual and consultative level, we have created detailed analyses and product descriptions that are not only technically accurate but also compelling.

Here are a few examples of just what we mean by "Content Development":

  • Detailed product brochures
  • Case Studies
  • Whitepapers
  • Spec Sheets & Data Sheets
  • Online interactive product demos

Graphic Design

If we wrote the most articulate and persuasive marketing content this world had ever seen, but printed it on the most repulsive layout this world has ever seen, we'll end up with the least successful marketing campaign this world has ever seen.

At Carter & Co., our in-house design department doesn't exist to win awards and stretch the limits of computer technology—we leave that for the big ad agencies. We do, however, offer professional design that gets your company noticed and gets your prospects to connect with your message. After all, no business makes a buying decision based on a pretty picture, but if there was no picture at all they may have never read the collateral.

We have helped clients from the earliest stages of brand definitions (logos, color schemes, font selection, etc.) to the most detailed print layout and online interactive media. Visit our portfolio to learn more.

Marketing Communication Strategy

Often times, when we first meet with a client, the questions that plague them most are not, "who can create our brochures," or, "who should build our website?" Instead, the most troubling question is "what do we want to say," and, "how do we want to say it?"

That's where Carter & Co. excels. Our forte is in making complex products and services easier to buy. That task begins with a high-level understanding of who our audience is, how they make decisions, and what we can do to influence those decisions. We help companies define the value proposition for their product/service, and then create a communication strategy that will coney that value to the target audience.

Marketing Services

Carter & Co. delivers a wide range of services, beginning with the most crucial: understanding your product or service. We develop communication strategies, create content-rich marketing materials, and then execute on the strategies that will connect with your target audience.

When you need a marketing partner that understands your industry, no other firm possesses the technical prowess and unique ability to understand complex products and services like Carter & Co.

Marketing Methodology

At Carter & Co., we see marketing as a unique blend of creativity and science. With any science, there are methods that are not only valued for their effectiveness, but also for the structure and guided technique that they provide.

Two of the most commonly implemented concepts that we utilize are the Client Path Marketing methodology, developed by Harvard MBA Bill Corbin, as well as the WikiMarketing Methodology, developed by none other than Nick Carter, owner and creative director at Carter & Co.

WikiMarketing

What WikiMarketing Is...

WikiMarketing is a Community Marketing strategy designed to build a company’s reputation as a resource—or a “Trusted Advisor.” Rather than using promotional messages, WikiMarketing relies on pure knowledge-sharing within wiki’s, forums, and chats that serve to benefit the community at large. By engaging the community with value-added messaging, a company will build a reputation for beneficial messages, thereby reducing the skepticism and other barriers in marketing communication.

In addition, WikiMarketing can serve to speed the adoption of new technologies you develop, decrease the load on your formal tech support systems by offering resolution via wiki’s, and create advocates for your company.

What WikiMarketing Is Not...

There are many subversive tactics for infiltrating and exploiting online wiki’s in order to promote a company. WikiMarketing is inherently opposed to these tactics. To truly succeed in WikiMarketing, a company must genuinely find ways to benefit the community through its contributions. Link spamming—uselessly inserting links to a promotional website to generate traffic—and broadcasting hype without credible citation plays no part in a successful WikiMarketing strategy.

The WikiMarketing Process:

The process of WikiMarketing revolves around identifying and fulfilling real needs for knowledge within the community by means of credible sources, authored by your company but distilled through a neutral source.

  1. Identify areas of need for knowledge and expertise within the wiki’s, forums, and chats that you can fulfill successfully.
  2. Author articles and other materials (i.e. video, whitepapers, blog articles, tutorials) that convey this knowledge in an objective style.
  3. Distill the materials through a neutral source for added credibility as cited sources. Carter & Co. hosts TechnopediaSource.org to distill and also track the performance of WikiMarketing campaigns.
  4. Integrate the knowledge into wiki’s, forums, and chats as external references, links, and transparent contributions with credible citations.

Client Path Marketing

In marketing a product or service that's complex and intricate, you face the challenge of explaining rich features while remaining persuasive and compelling. We know the importance of presenting the product's benefits without an overload of features and jargon. Carter & Co. uses the Client Path Marketing methodology to design clear, concise, and most importantly, compelling marketing strategies.

CAD Software Marketing

We do take our jobs seriously, most of the time, but some facts of the business are just too funny not to enjoy. Technical buyers, like CAD Managers & CTO's are not fooled by buzz words and fancy terminology. They want to see marketing materials that mean something to them, build real value in the product, and leave them with the confidence that they're making the right buying decision.

If this comic hits a bit too close to home for you, let's talk about a marketing communication strategy that makes your CAD, CAM, or PDM products easier to buy.

When Engineers Write Copy

We do take our jobs seriously, most of the time, but some facts of the business are just too funny not to enjoy. We've all seen the sales collateral filled from shrunken margin to shrunken margin with text about what it does, how it does it, and more about how it does it. Is that info valuable to the sales process? Probably. Should it be communicated all at once before the prospect has even requested a quote? Maybe not.

If this comic hits a bit too close to home for you, let's talk about a marketing communication strategy that will make your complex product easier to buy.
